forgotten

Often enough it seems that a dreamer will report a forgotten element of the dream.  Maybe some additional aspects are known, but this forgotten thing often stands juxtaposed to something for which recall was successful.

It is my feeling that this is not some random failure of dream recall, but an intentional aspect of the dream.  Often in a polarity of two things there is some indication that one thing is known or well-lit or friendly territory while the other is strange, dark or unfriendly.  I would add to this the idea that one thing is perceived and recalled while the other is more faintly perceived and dimly recalled.  All this is as if there is a polarity of consciousness versus relative unconsciousness about some whole matter.
