Title: Originality ?
Post by: kinkabah on February 09, 2008, 04:06:40 AM
Hello,

I'm currently having somewhat of meltdown trying to come to terms with the idea that it seems impossible to create any sort of character that could be considered , " original " .

The best example , and probably one of the most over used in recent times of someone who I think fits this description is Darth Vader ,whom I would probably consider an archetype .
Between looking at it from different angles I can see why certain characters to a degree become a success and others not , in Vaders case he seems to have crossed a lot of boundaries .

However its had been 30 or so yrs since he first graced our screens and I'm wondering why there hasn't really been any others thats had the same impact and more importantly if it is even possible to create something like that again ?

In what way do you see Darth Vader as being an original character?

I think he might be unique because of the depth of the character development of this would-be good guy who went so bad.
